Joanne Sedgbeer

Based in North Devon since 1986, Joanne Sedgbeer is a painter whose work reflects a lifelong love of the natural world. Born in Glasgow and raised in Cornwall, her connection with the coast and countryside began early, shaped by long walks with her father along the South West Coast Path and a deep appreciation for nature inspired by her mother.

Joanne’s background in graphic design, fine art, and photography feeds into her distinctive style. Working mainly in water-based oils, acrylics, and watercolour, she creates expressive wildlife scenes, coastal landscapes, and contemporary still life paintings. Her compositions often balance clarity and structure with a looser, intuitive approach, combining fine detail with the freedom of palette knife work.

Drawing inspiration from her garden, nearby woodlands, rivers, and the dramatic North Devon coastline, Joanne captures fleeting moments in nature through colour, light and form. Whether depicting the delicacy of a single bloom or the energy of a changing sky, her work is grounded in lived experience and emotional connection.

Joanne has exhibited locally in solo and group shows, including at The Burton Art Gallery and RHS Garden Rosemoor.

Joanne Sedgbeer is represented by Echo Beach Gallery in Ilfracombe, North Devon, a vibrant space where her work forms part of a curated collection showcasing distinctive local and coastal art.
