Fiona Cant
Fiona Cant is an emerging artist whose vibrant semi-abstract landscapes capture the essence of the wild and untamed places that inspire her. Based in her studio in Cornwall, Fiona draws deeply from the rugged beauty of the Cornish coastline. Her work in mixed media reflects a dynamic interplay of acrylics, collage, textures, and glazes, creating layered compositions that are both bold and expressive. These pieces invite viewers to explore the realities of both the outer world and their own inner landscapes.
Fiona's artistic process is deeply intertwined with her daily walks along the beaches and coastal paths of Cornwall, often accompanied by her dog. "I walk every day with my dog on the beaches and coast path," she shares. "Sometimes I sketch, but more often I take many photos of little details that catch my eye." Her keen observation extends beyond the expansive ocean and sky to the intricate patterns left in the sand by the receding tide and the folds and crevices of rocks and pebbles.
For Fiona, being in nature is a grounding experience that heightens her sense of presence, whether she is bracing against a strong wind on a headland or enjoying the warmth of the sun in a sheltered cove. "It is these feelings of freedom, serenity, and aliveness I wish to convey in my paintings. It is an ongoing journey of discovery."
Her art not only reflects the physical beauty of the landscape but also the profound emotional and sensory experiences of being immersed in nature. Fiona Cant's work is a testament to the power of place and the transformative experience of engaging deeply with the natural world.
