North Devon Ice Age is a striking semi-abstract seascape by Russell Scott-Skinner, imagined from an aerial perspective in a future shaped by rising sea levels and a returning ice age. His work contemplates the fleeting scale of human time against nature’s vast and unrelenting force, a reminder of how the Earth reclaims and reshapes itself.

The textured composition traces the transformed coastline of North Devon, beginning at Combe Martin (top right), then sweeping left through Ilfracombe, Lee Bay, Mortehoe, Woolacombe, Putsborough and Croyde, before reaching Saunton Sands. The landscape continues across the flooded Burrows and over the Taw estuary where Barnstaple lies beneath the water and finally across to Westward Ho!

Inspired by the natural processes of erosion, glaciation, and tidal force, the painting captures a dramatic vision of change and resilience. It honours the way nature sculpts the land across epochs long before us and long after.
